Travel is great, but its impact on our world isn’t always so great.

Like anything, travel isn’t without its flaws. At its worst, travel destroys the environment, impacts communities and wipes out wildlife.

At its best, though, travel can enhance the world we live in. It can make our planet a better place. And it can also take you on transformative inner journeys, too.

I don’t claim to be perfect, but I do try to do my bit to reduce the negative impact of my travels. I also strive to increase the positive impact my travels have on the people and places I encounter. And I want to help you do the same. That’s why I strive to make Alajode a responsible travel blog, focusing on three main areas:

  • Ecotourism: Travel that’s kind to our planet, promotes conservation and highlights ethical wildlife encounters. In other words, enjoying our natural world without damaging it.
  • Responsible tourism: Cultural and experiential travel that only has a positive impact on people, places and societies.
  • Transformative travel: Experiences that take you on a personal journey, taking you down a road of self-discovery and transformation that will stay with you long after your trip.

My favourite responsible travel experiences around the world:

It’s hard to narrow down my favourite experiences around the world. The blog posts below cover natural wonders, wildlife encounters and a festival with a positive message. The thing they all have in common is that they were all rewarding.

Transformative travel

Why do you travel?

I strongly believe that the best kind of travel enhances everyone involved – including the traveller.

While I always want my travels to have a positive impact on people, nature and the economy, I also travel to learn and grow as a person.

Here are some of my most popular posts about transformative travel and experiences I’ve had:

My favourite ecotourism destinations:

Love nature? Care about the environment? Want to see wildlife in their natural habitat?

These ecotourism destinations are some of my favourite places for green travel. Whether it’s an expansive vegan food scene or a dedication to animal conservation, they all have something to offer eco-conscious travellers.

With its diverse animal and plant life, the ecotourism experiences in Colombia are endless.

With this city’s many sustainability initiatives, green travel in Singapore is easy.

Eco-conscious and socially conscious, Portland is a city that makes it easy to travel responsibly.

With so much unique wildlife to spot, Ecuador is the perfect destination for animal lovers.
